We got talking, as we sometimes do, about the possibility of homeschooling Jeremiah. At this point, we're just tossing the idea around and playing with it.

"We should make Tot do oral presentations," Pär said.

"That's kind of lame. The whole point of oral presentations is to teach someone to stand up in front of a group of people and communicate to them. An oral presentation to you or me wouldn't be much different from him talking normally to us about what he's learned."

"We could invite a bunch of people over to hear his presentation!"

"Who?"

"A bunch of little kids. Like if he has a playgroup, he could read to his playgroup!"

"Oh sure, because nothing livens up a playgroup quite like listening to some small fry drone on about seventeenth-century Scandanavia or whatnot."

"We'll give them free beer," he said. "And have a barbeque!"

"You have some strange ideas about what playgroups are for children."

"MEAT AND BEER!"

It took us a while to finish giggling.

"Let's watch the movie," I said. "I forget, what did we rent again?"

"Steel Jaws," Pär announced promptly.

"Oh yeah, Keeping the Faith. Otherwise known," I added, "as Steel Jaws."

"Right, that's the one."

"Where did you get 'Steel Jaws' from?"

"From the cover. It's got steel on it."

I thought about the cover. "It's got a picture of three people walking down the street."

"I know. It's a strange association." He looked a little bewildered.

"I like your associations."

"Why?"

"I like your brain."

"It's very confused," he sighed.

"Why?"

"I mean, it's confused in general. It's always muddled."

"It's confused by nature."

"Yes. My thinking is not very clear."

"It's clear about all the important things," I said, putting my arms around him and snuggling up against his chest.
