I attempted to explain American pop culture again to Pär this morning. I had referred to Bewitched, the TV series, and found he'd never heard of it before. Having the show's plot described to you just isn't the same as having grown up with it, though.

"There's this really cool witch, see, and she marries a mortal man, right, who's kind of a dork. And then she tries not to use her powers anymore."

"Why not?"

"It's like 1965 and all she wants is to be a suburban housewife."

When you put it that way, it sure sounds dumb.

Sometimes I wish Pär were more American-pop-culture literate. Or just more capable of expressing himself coherently when talking about movies. Not that he really needs to be, since I know what he means anyway. His comments on Bewitched:

"I guess it's different from that movie," he said. "The one with her and her. Witches. No. Something else."

"Practical Magic," I sighed.

"Yes!" he said. "It's got... her in it, right?"

"Right," I said.
